Seeds of change

Christian Aid – Brasilia and Manila

After training in political activism funded by Christian Aid, Raquel Rodrigues Ferreira (20) and Raíssa Sampaio Santos (18), from a slum neighbourhood on the outskirts of Brasilia, went to a public budget meeting and successfully lobbied for the city council’s to allocate an extra million dollars for maintenance work in all the city’s schools.

Christian Aid partners Urban Poor Associates and Unlad Kabayan work in Manila’s slums giving communities help to access services, earn a living and campaign for secure housing. Whilst life remains tough, poor communities are increasingly being given a voice to bring about change.
